Join Kat Fitzpatrick at the beautiful Gumtree Museum of Art for a two-day encaustic workshop in January. The workshop is designed to introduce students to the use of the ancient art medium of encaustic — damar crystals+beeswax+pigment).

Beginners, as well as seasoned artists will find a rich and versatile “new” medium that has been around almost 2,000 years. It is fragrant, durable up to temperatures of 160 degrees and beautiful either in its natural amber state or with pigment added.

The cost of the workshop is $325 per person. No materials need be purchased by the students, although Kat strongly urges participants to bring personal treasures from home. These may include black and white high contrast copies of family photos, old letters or ephemera, lace, dried flowers, decorative papers, flat costume jewelry, etc. to be incorporated in the artwork. Students can easily go home with five completed pieces over the course of two days.

Classes & Workshops

Kat offers a year-round opportunity to schedule art classes and workshops. Her studio art classes include day, evening, and weekend classes for all ages. She can tailor one-day or multiple-day workshops for churches or organizations with a minimum of six participants in encaustic painting. (See details on her current workshop: Courting Stillness — An Icon Workshop for the Harried Pilgrim.)

Drawing Classes

Kat believes a good foundation in drawing translates into stronger painting no matter the medium. Individual or small group sessions focusing on drawing skills and techniques are available. Contact Kat by email at katfitzpatrick@bellsouth.net letting her know what kind of class interests you.

Artist Retreats

Recharge the creative self with a one-on-one artist retreat at Katfish Studio in Bay St. Louis, only two blocks from the beautiful, bountiful Mississippi Gulf Coast. Kat will fashion a program to suit the individual artist.

Choose a one-day or a two-day session. Stay at a local B&B or on the premises in the classic 1905 renovated studio home with a private entrance, deck, bedroom, bath and sitting room.
